Welcome back parents and students!
The 2016-2017 marching season is under way, and with it comes a new and exciting halftime show titled Afterworld by Gary P. Gilroy. We have been hard at work for the past two weeks preparing the audible and visual excitement that you have come to expect for the Pride of Malakoff, and we are sure not to disappoint. We have a lot of new members this year who have really stepped up to the plate to contribute bringing our total number of band members to 80 students, and we can't wait to get out there and route on our Malakoff athletic programs and represent the school at UIL and invitational contests.
In addition to new student members, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new assistant director Jeremy Dowden! He will be in charge of the Middle School bands and assisting with duties at the high school level as well. He is a graduate of Kaufman High School, holds an undergraduate degree from Northwestern State University, and a Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. He comes to Malakoff with multitudes of experience in music both as a performer and teacher. I have the utmost confidence in his ability to provide our band students with the knowledge and experience necessary to strengthen their musical skills, and prepare them for a future of success both in and out of the band classroom.
That's all for now! Let's have a great year!
