For the third consecutive year, the students of Malakoff ISD raised their test scores.  The District is Recognized for the first time since TAKS test have been given.  The District will miss the highest rating of Exemplary by only one student.

Malakoff Elementary had the highest overall scores and will be Exemplary.  In all of the rated areas, 98% or more of the students passed the tests.  The High School and Middle School campuses are in the high Recognized range.  There is a strong possibility that the High School will be moved to the Exemplary category after the state considers an appeal the District has filed.  Tool Elementary moved down to the acceptable range due to the area of science.  All other areas were in the Exemplary range.

The most significant gains throughout the District over the last few years are from the African American and Hispanic groups in the subjects of mathematics and science.  The passing rates in several of these categories have more than doubled over the last three years.

Superintendent Spies contributes these major gains to the dedication of the staff.  Not only has there been a concerted effort to improve the curriculum in the District, but more time is being spent on analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of individual students.  Individual plans are being developed for each child to insure that all children will excel.

Construction Continues

Malakoff ISD has continued its efforts to provide quality facilities for all programs this summer.

Replacing the football stands is the largest project.  The home side accommodates over 1,500 fans, 600 more than previously.  Fans will notice significantly more leg room.  There will also be two levels of reserved seating.  The upper section will be individual stadium seats and the lower reserved section will be bench seats with backs.  Restrooms at the stadium are being upgraded and sidewalks added as well. Reserved seats are on sale at the administration building located at 1308 FM 3062.

Tennis courts are being added to the west side of the High School.  The two courts will be lit and available for community use.  The courts should be operational by August 15.

A new 6,000 square foot agricultural facility is also under construction.  It is located behind the softball field.  This facility will allow students who do not have access to farm land to participate in raising animals.  The project is anticipated to be complete by October 1.

Plans are also underway to expand and renovate the high school as well as the old rock building located on Malakoff Elementary’s campus.  The High School project will include adding two new science labs, a new computer lab, and a journalism lab.  The art room will also be expanded.  The rock building project will completely renovate the inside of the 14,500 sq. ft. structure allowing for the addition of eight classrooms, a science lab, and a computer lab.

All of these projects were made possible through the voters approving the 2008 and 2010 bond election.

MALAKOFF ISD ADOPTED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE.
