Dear Parent or Guardian,
The State of Texas changed the way districts plan their calendars two years ago. They changed our counting from days of instruction to total minutes of instruction for the entire year. This change to minutes gave school districts more freedom in preparing and changing their school day and year.
Malakoff ISD was closed for illness on Friday, January 12th. The district had built into the calendar enough minutes to cover this day. The district had to close on Tuesday, January 16th due to bad weather. One choice for making up this day is to use a scheduled bad weather day on Friday, March 30th or the bad weather day on May 29th. May 29th is the day after Memorial Day, which would extend the school year. Another choice would be to extend the school day by a couple of minutes each day and save the bad weather days on March 30th and May 29th.
We have decided to start school two minutes earlier for each school day starting on February 1st. School will start at 7:58 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. I have asked our principals to keep their tardy bells for the beginning of the day at the same time as the 8:00 a.m. start. Breakfast times will start 5 minutes earlier to accommodate the change.
2017 Tax Rate
