The Malakoff Independent School District serves the communities of Tool, Malakoff, Star Harbor, Caney City, Payne Springs and Mankin. The district encompasses an area of approximately 120 square miles and is composed of five campuses: Malakoff Elementary, Tool Elementary, Malakoff Middle School, Malakoff High School and the Leo Orr Senior Education Center, which houses the district's DAEP. Each campus provides a safe and orderly learning environment, dedicated professional educators, a balance of academic, cultural and athletic experiences, individualized instruction and a variety of student services that contribute to student goal attainment and the development of productive and responsible citizens.
Malakoff ISD is located in Malakoff, Texas, in East Texas, 40 minutes from Tyler, Tx., to the east and just under two hours from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex to the west. Malakoff is located at the intersection of two highways -- State Highway 31 and State Highway 198. Scenic Cedar Creek Lake, fourth largest lake in Texas, is located less than 5 minutes to the north of downtown Malakoff.
Malakoff has a population of just over 2,300, according to the U.S. Census The median listing price of a home in the district was $324,000.
The district benefits from a diverse student population. It’s student body is 11 percent African American, 15 percent Hispanic, 68 percent White. 3 percent of its population are classified as two or more races. 47 percent of the district’s students are female and 52 percent are male. The total number of students in Malakoff ISD at the end of the 2014-15 school year was 1,232.
Under the State of Texas Accountability System, Malakoff ISD is rated as “Met Standard” during the 2015-2016 school year. All campuses received a “Met Standard” rating as well.
The district offers several bus routes covering every corner of the 120 square miles of the district.
Breakfast and lunch are provided at each campus. The district participates in the Federal Program which allows all students except at the high school to eat breakfast and lunch for free.
School Board Meetings:
Meeting of the Board of Trustees are held on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the administration building located at 1308 FM 3062 in Malakoff. Persons wishing to attend these meetings are welcome; however, those wishing to speak before the board must register for the open forum prior to the meeting. State law prohibits action on any item that does not appear on the published agenda.
